Rhododendron and Pine Tree

Sissie and I went for a walk on Monday.

We found lush rhododendrons at the abandoned mega-church,
Blooming profusely despite being untended these past 5 years ...

Beth saw this one first, the vibrant color of the flower, the rich texture of the pine tree it was resting against ...

  1. Beautiful photographs Clytie.
The pink flowers against the trunk and the green leaves compliment each other.

  2. Aaaawww....I LOVE walking with you, Sissy! These photos turned out so well--much better than those I took! (grin)

  3. They are so gorgeous this year! You did justice to the colors here. I still can't figure out how to photograph the red ones. The color kind of burns out. We have purples starting now and the pinks are still wonderful. Yes, it's a great year for these flowers! We had pouring rain all night, but it's beautiful now. It's hard to say what it will be like in an hour. We're stupposed to have storms this weekend (again).

  4. Amazing to find something so gorgeous as rhododendrons growing untended. They look so nice next to the pine bark.

  5. What simply gorgeous blooms. I gather Rhododendrons can go a long time, and grow quite huge, with little or no human care. Not far from where we live there is a stretch of woods where a hundred years ago there were gardens belonging to a local chateau. The chateau was sold and became a school, and the property partitioned up into shopping center ground and a big patch left to go back to woods. There are still rhododendrons in there from the old gardens. I need to go see if they are in bloom, if so I'll try to bring a picture or two back to share...
