Beetle on Water Lily Flower

I was taking pictures of the water lily on Dad's pond.
When I looked at the pictures, I realized I had caught
A beetle on one of the flowers.

When I enlarged the picture to look at the beetle, I liked how the flower seems to fade away to nothing, and the green around beetle looks a little washed out.

Thistle Seed Caught on Grass

I could curse the dried up grass ... fire hazard.
I could curse the thistle seeds ... noxious weeds.
I could even curse the spider webs ... just plain eek.

The grass harbors the spider.
The spider's web catches the thistle seeds.
The thistle seeds catch the reflections of the morning sun.

Beauty unfolds unexpectedly.

Wing of Beauty

The winged bug had flown into the house during the night ...
Drawn by the light in the kitchen.

But he got too close to the source.
And died.

I stand in awe of the stained glass beauty of his wings ...
Isn't nature wonderful?

Flower Shadow on Tree

I was waiting for mom to get out of the dentist's office ...
So I went for a short walk in the busy neighborhood.

Not much to see.
Until I started to SEE.
Nature's beauty is everywhere - even in the most unlikely places!
If I stop to look.

Grass Heart - Out of Focus

There is a feeling of autumn in the air today.
A feeling of anticipation, of cooler weather, of harvest.

I was trying to catch a heart I saw in a patch of tiny dry late summer grasses ...
I couldn't get a focus.

But I kind of like the way the heart still shows ...
A feathery, blurry heart.

Big Flying Bug

He flew into the house the other night ...
The "Big Flying Bug".

To give you an idea of his size ...

To give you an idea of his face ...

Interesting critter, isn't he?

Running Deer

I think the deer startled me as much as I startled the deer.

Because I was so busy watching ...
The other two deer standing beside me in the field!!!

While another female and baby deer crossed the road in front of me ...

Hey - We have a HERD!

Heart of Shadow

The new owners brought in heavy machinery to clean out the front entrance area to the once-abandoned mega-church property.

They weren't very careful.
They ripped down some of my favorite native shrubs - the red osier dogwoods.
It broke my heart.

On the bright side, on the right side of the picture, the shadows in the bushes show something special ...

A shadowy Heart!

Stairway to Heaven ...

Deer Valley trees have grown up since we wandered the woods when we were kids. The limbs of the cedar trees that we climbed back then are now brittle with age ...

But in my imagination I am climbing those trees again.
My own private and magical 'Stairway to Heaven'.
